Van truly is a domestic goddess ... mainly during the long summer holidays which is when she makes gooseberry jam from her own garden.
For really, really special occasions - like birthdays - she commandeers the kitchen and absolutely puts her heart and soul into making spectacular birthday cakes for the girls. Here's some lovely examples:
